Don't Touch God’s Glory
In the beginning, there was only one language in the whole earth, and the people said: “Let us make a name for ourselves!" Genesis 11:1,4.
Come let us... They built a city called Babel, it did not glorify God and so God came down from heaven and scattered the people all over the earth, and gave them different languages. The name of the city Babel is the place where God confused all the people of the earth. Hence the term babbling - when someone is speaking, and it just does not make sense, we say: "He/She is just babbling."
Father God will never allow anyone to usurp His authority, or touch His glory. Look down through the history of mankind, any Nation, organisation, or movement that has attempted to touch God’s glory has failed miserably. Starting with the Pharaoh of Egypt, then Caesar of Rome, Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and Alexander of Greece. Right through history to this present day, they have fallen because they had the audacity to think they could do it on their own and didn’t need God.
Success and even blessing, can be a very dangerous place to find ourselves, if not managed correctly. "Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall." 1 Corinthians 10:12.
When we’re struggling, on our knees so to speak, we cannot fall far. But when we’re put on a pedestal, often by men, it’s very easy to be knocked off. They said the Titanic was unsinkable but on its maiden voyage, it went down like a stone to the bottom of the cold Atlantic Ocean - sliced open like a can of beans by a huge iceberg.
Let us be very careful how we stand lest we fall, always giving God all the glory for anything we achieve or succeed in. Most of all, whatever enterprise or project we attempt, before we commence, be sure to say: “The Lord willing."
We have a favourite quote here at Shalom, which goes something like this: “You must attempt something so big, that if not from God, it is doomed to fail." Why you might ask? Because when it succeeds, people will say that it was not performed by man, but it was a miracle by the hand of God.
Never try and compete with God or touch His glory! "No flesh should glory in His presence.” 1 Corinthians 1:29
