Where does your treasure lie?

The Lord Jesus Christ tells us very clearly, and very simply that where a man’s treasure is, that is where his heart will be too! Luke 12:34.

During this time of lockdown, we have the opportunity to have a sincere look into our lives and reevaluate our priorities. What is important to us?

What values do we put on the life to come and what values do we put on our earthly treasures? One good way to check this is to see how much of our time we are spending on these priorities. Your heart will always be concentrated on the thing you value the most.

The only treasure that you and I will take from this earth when we die is the precious souls of our loved ones - absolutely nothing else. How much time are we spending loving them into God's kingdom?

Many years ago I heard such a sad story told by a Scottish preacher: There was a miller, whose business it was to grind corn for people using his old waterwheel. The waterwheel would drive the grindstones to make the cornmeal. The old man was consumed with making money - that’s where his heart was and that’s all he lived for. But he became very sick, unto death, and asked that his bed would be moved out of his house to the mill where he could watch and hear the corn being ground. The Preacher came to visit the dying man and pleaded with him to give his life to Christ before he died. But the old dying man could only answer: “I can’t hear you”, because of the noise of the grindstones grinding out his earthly money, as he was about to leave this earth and go to a lost eternity.

What an opportune time, now, for you and I to honestly evaluate where our hearts truly lie. Jesus says that the evaluation you make will tell you where your heart lies at this moment.
