He Will Not Forget
I am busy reading the Book of 1 Samuel at present and early this morning, while having my quiet time, I read the story of how the Lord delivered the Israelites at the battle of Mizpah. Isn’t it amazing we have a Mizpah just down the road from the farm, then just up the road there is an old youth centre that was built by one of my dearest brothers in Christ, who has long since gone to be with Jesus - he called that youth camp Ebenezer. Of course, Ebenezer means 'thus far the Lord has helped us.'
I firmly believe we need to remember, in these troubled times in which we are living when lots of people are losing hope and losing sight because of a spirit of fear that is gripping them, that the Lord has never let us down.
In Hebrews 13:5 (NKJV) the Lord says very clearly: “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
The Lord doesn’t tell lies. What He says He means. We need to remember this and we need to encourage one another - maybe with a phone call, an email or a WhatsApp message. We need to remind each other that it doesn’t matter what the world says, it doesn’t matter what happens in politics and it doesn’t matter what happens in hospitals - the Lord has promised us that He will never forsake us and He will never leave us.
I remember many years ago, as a young man, I went to Australia to work on some ranches. I clearly remember working on a Hereford beef ranch in New South Wales. I was very much in the world in those days and those Australians taught me many things, but one of the good things they taught me was how to ride a horse - I’ve never forgotten that to this day and I’m still riding Snowy.
We would come home dusty and tired after having worked a long day! We would be dusty and tired and we would go into the local pub in the village. But you know, every single night, if I remember correctly it was at six o’clock - every man, and there were some tough boys in that bar, would put their beers down on the counter and be absolutely silent. There would be a little red light that would come up in the corner of the bar, this was right through the country, then there would be a voice that would come over and say ‘lest we forget’. Then they’d speak about all the men that had given their lives for the country: the first world war, the second world war, the Korean war, the Vietnam war and so forth. No one breathed, no one said a word, utter respect. I’ve never forgotten that.
We need to remember that the Lord has never ever let us down.
We have a cairn outside our little thatched Chapel, next to the big Tabernacle church. We placed those stones there together as a community many years ago, reminding ourselves that the Lord God had been with us thus far.
Be encouraged today and remember that He is not about to change His mind - He is not about to let us go. He is not about to leave us, deserted or to leave us as orphans.
He will be with us to the very end.
God bless you and remember Jesus will never leave you.
