Letter
Hebrews 13:22b (NKJV) :
…for I have written to you in few words.
Write that letter. I have just finished reading the life story of David Brainerd. He was a young man who died at the age of twenty-nine years old and yet he is a giant of the faith. Now, not many people know about him. As a young student he went to Yale University, and then because of disagreements he was banished from the University, which broke his heart. He went out into the wilderness and started to preach the gospel to the First Nation people. He wrote letters and he wrote journals and eventually he succumbed through hardship and through spending much time in the wilderness. He had very little accommodation, he didn’t have much food, but the First Nation people really embraced him, and he kept up faithfully writing in his diaries and his journals.
Eventually when he died, his brother brought the journals to Jonathan Edwards who was instrumental in starting a huge revival in America and Jonathan Edwards published those letters, the diaries of the young David Brainerd. They have become wonderful encouragements to Christians for hundreds and hundreds of years, so much so that men of the calibre of John Wesley, Robert Murray McCheyne and many other great men of God said that those diaries, those letters, inspired them to keep on preaching the gospel.
I really want to encourage you to keep a journal, to write your letter, to write your story, if need be, because when you are not here, those letters will still carry to the ends of the world.
Jesus bless you
