Overcomers
“Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?”
Who is it that overcomes this world, who are the world conquerors? Who is it who wins over the world system, who are the victors of the world?
Do we know the Author of the Bible? You see, you can know the Book off by heart. You can memorize reams of scripture but that will not make you a child of God - That will just make you a history teacher. I love to memorize and quote scripture, I do, but unless I know and believe that Jesus is God, Emmanuel (God with us), I just become like a proverbial parrot. We need to know Him - the right to become the children of God, those who receive Him, those who believe in His Name.
John 1:12 states very clearly that:
”But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name”
You and I are not defeated by the world’s hostility or compelled by it to turn from Christ - Not at all!
John 14:27 - Jesus says very clearly:
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
I remember like yesterday, as a young man, an unbeliever - walking down the farm road, having a look at my maize crop. My little three-year-old girl was walking next to me and she was holding onto my little finger, I looked down at this beautiful child and I got afraid. I thought, "Lord, what will happen to this little girl if I die today?" You see, I didn’t know Him, I knew about Him... I didn’t know who would protect her but after I met and believed that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that paralyzing fear left me and has never returned.
I want to say to you today, if you want to be an overcomer, you need to believe that Jesus Christ is for real. The only way you will do that is by getting to know Him, by spending time with Him, talking to Him, reading His word and by spending time with His followers.
