Stand

It is Thursday morning, 9th December 2021, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand (there is the word - stand!) against the wiles of the devil.”

Ephesians 6:10

Put on the whole armour of God. Now, remember, the armour of God only covers the front - There is no protection from the back. Therefore, the Lord is telling us this morning that we need to stand. More than once He says it, we must stand. The battle is the Lord’s. We must not turn around and we must not run because if we do, we expose ourselves to the devil. Remember, the devil is nothing more than a coward, a thief and a bully - That is all he is. He is like a little mouse running around with a big loudspeaker, frightening innocent people to death with his lies.

But what must we do? Well, people always want to be doing things, don’t we? We always feel safer if we are doing something. The Lord says what we must do is pray. Prayer is a doing word.

Every single morning, before Jill and I get out of bed, we put on the armour of God - every single day. We start with the helmet of salvation, that is right, that is to watch over our minds for the day, what we are thinking. We put on the breastplate of righteousness. We put the belt of truth around our waist, so we speak the truth only. We put on the shoes of peace. This is not a time to cause trouble, it is a time to show people the Prince of Peace. We take up the shield of faith to quench the fiery darts of the wicked one - the lies of the devil. We take the sword of the Spirit. It is the only weapon that God has given to us, and that is the Bible, the word of God. And then we go out with the joy of the Lord, which is our strength.

I looked up the Oxford Dictionary to find out the literal meaning of the word stand and what it says: "To stand is to be in or to rise to an upright position."

So I am saying to you, mighty man, mighty woman of God - stand up for Jesus and He will fight for you.
