Amazing Grace

And a very good morning to you! It is Sunday morning, 27th of February 2022. And this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for the day. If we go straight to the Gospel of John:

“Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?”
She said, “No one, Lord.”
And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

John 8:10

And then we go to Luke 9:56:

“For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.”

You know that there is nothing you and I can do to make Jesus love us more and there is nothing we can do to make Him love us any less. The Lord has not come down to Earth from Heaven to condemn us but to forgive us and to give us a brand-new life. One of my favourite scriptures is found in Romans 8:1, where the Lord says there is no more condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

You know what I love? Jesus has got a bad memory… Oh yes, because when he forgives us, he forgets. The devil is the accuser of the brethren not the world and he is also a deceiver. You will find that in Revelation 12:10.

One of my verse special scriptures, 1 John 1:9, the Lord says if we confess our sins, say sorry, then He will forgive us our sins and He will cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Just say sorry today to the Lord and then move on with your life - Leave it at the foot of the cross. Remember, Jesus died for sinners, that’s right! He didn’t die for good people, He died for sinners like you and me.

I want to tell you about a man who was very, very evil. He was one of the most evil men you could ever think of. He was the captain of a slave ship. He took innocent people, by force in his ship, all the way from Africa to the Americas and they were enslaved. And yet this evil man, when he died, as he was dying, he said something so weakly, they couldn’t hear him. His friend put his ear to this man’s mouth and the man whispered, “What a great sinner I am but what a great Saviour He is!”

Who was that man? Well, that was John Newton. He wrote one of the most famous hymns of all time…

Amazing Grace,
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me,
I once was lost
But now am found,
I was blind
But now I see.

What beautiful words! Go out today, knowing that your sins are forgiven. Jesus says, “Go, and sin no more.”

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful Sunday.
Goodbye.
