Choices

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 6th of April, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

And Joshua said to the people, “…choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Joshua 24:15

And then we go to the New Testament, to the Gospel of Luke 22:42:

“Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

Choices! You and I have a choice to make. We have many choices to make, serious ones. Are we going to follow through with our decisions or not? You see, Joshua made his choice, he made it very clear. Jesus, in the Garden of Gethsemane, made His choice with great agony. He said, “…not My will, but Yours, be done.” He went through with it at a great cost. Verse 44 will tell you very clearly that being in agony, He prayed more earnestly, and then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

Our beloved Saviour could have pulled out. Yes, He could have said, “I can’t do this Father, I am coming back home”, but He didn’t. He made the choice. You and I have to make some serious choices in our lives. Jesus went ahead. He paid the full price for our sin so that you and I could go free. I believe that choice was absolutely critical for the future of mankind and Jesus knew it. That is why he sweated blood. It is not easy to say that the crucifixion was any less important, not to say that, no - not at all, but the fact that He chose to go through with it was the acid test.

Even this day on the very eve of the decision He made before He was crucified, Jesus made a choice. You and I have to make choices as well. Are we going to go through with our marriage or are we going to pull out? Are we going to finish that business venture or are we going to say, let’s just leave it alone? Are we going to complete that degree at university? Are we going to fulfil the calling on our lives? Are we going to serve Him unconditionally? That is the choice that you and I have to make today.

Let's choose, like Joshua, to follow Jesus at all costs.

God bless you and have a wonderful day,
Goodbye.
