Holy

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 18th of November, 2023, and this is your friend Angus Buchan with a thought for today.

We start in Psalm 72:19:

And blessed be His glorious name forever! And let the whole earth be filled with His glory. Amen and Amen.”

Then we go to the book of Isaiah 6:3:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!”

Then the last one is in the last book of the Bible, Revelation 4:8:

“Holy, holy, holy,
Lord God Almighty,
Who was and is and is to come!”

What beautiful scriptures! Holy means God as a Spirit who is active in the world. You know I’ve just come back from my bike ride. What a beautiful morning. The sun is shining, the birds are singing. There’s that beautiful fresh smell on the earth. Yes, He created it all in one word, Holy God! The Orthodox Jews revere the name of God so much that when they sign their name, God bless, they will write G-D. They will not even spell His name and yet this mighty God chose to leave His throne in paradise to come down to earth in the form of a defenceless baby and live amongst you and I and help us, direct us and most of all, show us the way home. I saw Him again today in all His glory and I want to tell you He is worth worshipping and praising!

Now, I’m going to sing a little hymn. I think all of us know it. Many of us may have learned it when we were at school. It was written in 1861 by John Dykes, and the lyrics by Bishop Reginald Heber. It is called Holy, Holy, Holy. If you want to join with me, I would be honoured if you would sing it with me. Let’s try it together:

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee,
Heaven's elders cast their crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim worship too before Thee,
Who wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see;
Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in power, in love, and purity.

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful Saturday and glory by His name for truly He is holy and worthy!
