Keep Your Word

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Wednesday morning, it is the 12th of April, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“The integrity of the upright will guide them.”
Proverbs 11:3

Then in Hebrews 13:5, Jesus says,

“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Integrity is a wonderful fruit to see in a godly person. The most integral person that has ever lived is Jesus Christ. He is trustworthy, He is sincere, He is honest and stable. If He says He will do something for you, you can be absolutely sure and be at peace that He will do it. God has never ever once broken His promise to me.

Maybe a young lady is listening to this message who says, “But Uncle Angus, my boyfriend has been unfaithful to me. I will never trust another man again.” Oh, young lady, not all men are like that. Maybe a young man is listening to this message who says, you know, I was going to marry that girl. I loved her so much and she has run off with another man. I will never trust a girl again. No, they are not all like that, young man, I can tell you right now. Integrity is a very, very important part of our lives.

You know, if somebody came onto the farm and said, “I want to buy your horse, Snowy (I can hear all the children listening now), that beautiful horse that came from America. I want to buy him because I believe you are having a rough time on the farm and you need the money and we make an agreement and I shake his hand, it is called a gentleman’s agreement and he says, “I will bring the money tomorrow and I will come and collect the horse." A couple of hours later, another man comes onto the farm and says, “I have just heard that Snowy is for sale.” And I tell him, “No, sorry, you are a bit late. I sold him a couple of hours ago.” “Yes, but my little boy wants that horse. I will tell you what, I will double the price that you were offered.” “No.” “I will triple it.” I say, “No, I gave him my word. That is what integrity is and the horse is already sold.” We need to honour our word. When we say something we must do it. Jesus Christ is our ultimate example

You know, my old dad was a country blacksmith. That’s right, when he left Scotland, he used to shoe horses. He used to make wrought iron gates and repair wagons. We were never very wealthy but we always had enough and I will never forget when he got old and very sick, we had to put him in a frail care centre in our town, it was a beautiful place. I would visit my dad every single day and you know folks, it brings a tear to my eye because every day when I left I would say, “Dad, I will see you tomorrow” and he would just say to me as I went out the door, “Angus, is there enough money in the bank?” He didn’t want to owe anybody anything. I said, “Dad, there is plenty money in the bank.”

Let’s be those who honour our word today. What you say you must do. Keep your word and God will honour you.

Have a wonderful day… and by the way, Snowy is not for sale!

Jesus bless you and goodbye.
