Living Letters
I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 9th of March, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.
“You are our epistle (our letter) written in our hearts, known and read by all men;…”
2 Corinthians 3:2
We need to walk the talk. We need to be a living epistle, a letter. People need to be able to read us with their carnal eyes when they see us walking down the street. There needs to be a difference in us by our lifestyle and not necessarily by anything else, not by our college degree, our university qualifications or our sporting attributes. No - you see the greatest miracle is the change in a person’s life. No miracle can compare with that, not even the splitting of the Red Sea, and only the Master can do that in a man’s life, only Jesus can do that, change a man’s life in an instant.
Remember the story of Zacchaeus, in the Gospel of Luke 19:8? He was a terrible man. He was robbing his own people, the Jewish people, a tax collector of note. He climbed up a tree because he was a short man and he wanted to see Jesus. Jesus was walking through town, looked up at the tree and said, “Zacchaeus, I am coming to your house today to have a meal with you.” There was a complete and instant transformation in Zacchaeus’ life. He says in Luke 19:8:
“Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.”
He gave back to the Lord, not 10%, but 400%, an instant transformation! Can you imagine what the people must have said as he was walking down the street the next day? A thief turned into an angel overnight, and that's what you and I have to do my dear friend. We need to change. People need to read us like a book. They need to say, “You see that man? He was a scoundrel but now he has become a saint. He has had a change in his life. He has met Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world."
The Lord can do it for you and me today, and then we need to walk the talk and live the life.
