Pleasing to Him
“Who is able to stand before this holy Lord God?”
1 Samuel 6:20
And then we go straight to the Gospel of Matthew 12:30, Jesus says:
“He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.”
It is much better to do what Jesus says and the things that we know will be pleasing in His sight alone... Only do those things which will be pleasing to Him - We serve a Holy God! If you read that scripture in 1 Samuel, you will see that fifty thousand and seventy men were struck down because they were looking into the heart of the Ark of the Covenant. We cannot play with God, we need to do the things that are pleasing to the Lord.
We must be careful that we are not caught up with public opinion - Just because everybody else is doing it, that doesn’t make us right. We must watch out for the fear of man, that is what keeps us from the fear of God. When I talk about fear, I am talking about respect - I am talking about reverence. Remember, just because everyone else is doing it, that does not make it right. What a revolution would take place, in our lives, if we just did what God wanted... We would be radically altered.
What are we clinging to most in our lives at the moment? Is it our money, our reputation or is it our position in society? Now to test this maybe we should ask ourselves a simple question: What would we find hardest to let go of? You know from Mark 17 you can read that account - There was a rich young ruler who came to Jesus.
He said, “I have obeyed all the commandments in the Bible. What must I do to have eternal life?” And the Lord said, “Give your money to the poor and come and follow Me.”
The Bible says the young ruler walked away sad and very sorrowful because he was a very wealthy man. I don’t believe Jesus wanted his money, Jesus has got everything - He was testing him. One minister said to me that he believes Jesus would have been standing there with tears running down His face because that young man was walking into a lost eternity.
The Lord didn’t bargain with him and say, “Listen I tell you what, just give half of your money to the poor and come and follow Me”, or “Just pay in installments.” No - He said, “Give it all up”, because that was the thing that was holding him back from serving God. I know many wealthy men but do you know why they are wealthy? Because money doesn’t mean anything to them - It is just a tool for what they are doing. I know a lot of poor people who have no money but money is everything to them.
What is the thing that is holding you back today from serving the Lord with all of your heart? We need to live an undiluted life for Jesus. Then we will start soaring like that eagle into the high places where the world fears to venture.
Have a wonderful day.
God bless you.
