Like Flint

“For the Lord God will help Me;
Therefore I will not be disgraced;
Therefore I have set My face like a flint,
And I know that I will not be ashamed.”
Isaiah 50:7

You and I need to set our faces like a flint on the vision that God has given us - We need to remain focused. Do not allow the devil to distract you from your calling and from what He has called you to. Do not become distracted!

Remember, it is not how you start that counts but how you finish. Ask any sportsman and he will tell you, he is only as good as his last game. We need to keep our eyes focused on Jesus Christ alone.

To be falsely accused can be very painful. Jesus set His face to Jerusalem and He knew what was waiting for Him there - The cross, the crucifixion but He did not turn away from the vision. Paul went to Rome. He was told by many of his friends, “Please don’t go there because they will kill you!” And he did not change - He set his face like a flint towards his calling.

“…unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.”
John 12:24

Many years ago, a good old friend of mine, Lukey, picked me up at the airport in Johannesburg. We were going to a meeting. As we were driving, I was told by my son-in-law, “Did you see the newspapers this morning?” I said, “No”.
He said, “They are accusing a mighty man, in the Western Cape, in the Sandveld area, of shooting dogs and terrorising children.”

Now, of course, it was a lie from beginning to end. He shot the dogs because his people asked him to please shoot them because they were killing their sheep. It had nothing to do with terrorising children. But the thing that really upset me was that there was a picture of myself on the front cover. This man was in the distance with a small little caption at the back, “Mighty man shoots dogs and terrorises children.”

I said to Lukey, “What should I do Lukey, shall I sue the newspapers?”

And do you know what he said to me? He said something in Latin that I have never forgotten. In fact, it is printed on a piece of wood and as I am recording this, I am reading it:

“Aquila Non Capit Muscas”

What does it mean? It means, “Eagles do not chase mosquitoes.”

He said, “Leave it - It is not even worth following up. You will never see an eagle chasing a mosquito. An eagle chases the big game, up in the high craggy mountain tops. It is the little house birds, the little mossies that eat the mosquitoes.”

Go out today and set your face like a flint, complete the task God has given you!

God bless you,
Have a wonderful day!
