Call to Me...

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name!
It is Monday morning, 24 April 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start off in Jeremiah 33:3, the Lord says:

"Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’

And then we go straight to the New Testament, to Hebrews 13:6:

“The Lord is my helper; I will not fear.
What can man do to me?”

Isn’t it amazing, when you see a little child who is struggling to do something and you want to help them but they won’t let you help them? I have grandchildren like that - they will keep pushing your hand away because they want to do it themselves and show you but they can’t do it. Eventually, you just give a helping hand and the job gets done quickly. You and I are often like that with the Lord Jesus Christ. He wants to help us but we are determined to do it on our own. There must be a little bit of pride there, what do you think?

Many years ago I was involved in power-lifting. It's a wonderful sport that has a lot to do with the mind actually because you have to discipline yourself. You have got to get strong and fit - Often I would be in the gym training, doing the bench press, lying on my back, taking a huge weight off the stand and pressing it down to my chest and straight up again. It is one of the disciplines in power-lifting. I remember it like yesterday... Many times I would be going for maximum weight, I would take the weight off the stand, bring it slowly down onto my chest, breathe in slowly and then push it up as hard as I could. Often I would just get to that one point where I just could not push it anymore. My trainer would take just two fingers, that's all, and he would put them beneath the bar and up the bar would go. It is incredible how just a little bit of help does the job.

Now, today, don’t be proud - When you are struggling, whatever it might be, perhaps at school, it might be at university... you just can’t quite get it. You might be fixing a motorcar or you might be doing something where you just need that little bit of help. Call on the Lord and He will see you through!

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,
Goodbye.
