Storms of Life

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name. It is Sunday morning, 22nd January, 2023 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. Psalm 121 - I am reading verse 1 and 2:

“I will lift up my eyes to the hills
From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.”

Looking at our situation from God’s perspective, not from ours... Jesus is saying to us today, “Come up higher, then you can see the big picture.”

Some of us are so involved in the storms of our lives at the moment that we can’t even see the wood for the trees, so they say. Maybe it is a turbulent marriage that you are involved with at the moment. Maybe there is a management situation at work that you need to deal with and it is getting on top of you. Maybe, it is a financial crisis, you just don’t have the money or maybe it is a sick member in your family that you are concerned about. The Lord is telling us today to lift up our eyes, to look at our tests through God’s eyes and not ours.

As a young man I used to love going up into the mighty Drakensberg Mountains to fast and pray. Many times, I would leave early in the morning from my campsite and walk high up into the mountains. I would just have a pair of tackies, a t-shirt and a pair of shorts on... and my Bible. Sometimes I would get caught up there at midday, and as you know, there are many thunderstorms, quite vicious ones in the summertime but I would sit on top of a rock and watch the fierce storm happening beneath me. Lightening, thunder, wind, rain, and I would be sitting there with the sun shining down on me, spending time with the Lord, looking at the world from His perspective. And when the storm finished, I would take a slow walk back down to my campsite. There would be little rivulets running down the contour paths. The grass would have been beautifully washed and the birds were singing.

I want to say to you today, I believe the Lord does not want you and I to get caught up in the middle of the storm of life. Let it pass by you and then walk down safely with Jesus, He will give you the right direction. He will let you see your situation through His eyes and it won’t be anything as bad as what you thought.

Keep your eyes on the Lord!
Jesus bless you and have a beautiful Sunday,
Goodbye.
