Saved By Grace

A very good morning to you - I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 17th of November, 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more,…”
Romans 5:20

The Lord says to you and me:

"My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9

“Sufficient” means “plenty of”. That’s right! Sin threatens us with death but grace invites us into life. Isn’t that beautiful? Just like light overcomes darkness, you walk into a dark room, you switch on the light and what happens? The darkness leaves. It has to - it cannot be where there is light and Jesus Christ is the Light of the world. Grace is free. You can’t earn it, you can’t work for it, you can’t even study for it, you can only receive it and you see, that is why foolish pride keeps us from it.

I was brought up in the old school. If you can’t afford it, if you can’t pay for it, then you don’t take it. It was a very hard lesson for me to learn when I became a follower of Jesus Christ, that I have to receive His loving-kindness and His grace for free because I cannot pay for it.

Ephesians 2:8 is a very beautiful scripture. It says that we have been saved by grace through faith and not of ourselves, for it was a gift from God. If there was ever a man who understood the meaning of grace, it was John Newton. He was a slave ship captain who wrote that beautiful hymn, Amazing Grace. You see, grace means “undeserved loving kindness.” It means, “unmerited favour.” John Newton wrote the following, “I am not what I might be, I am not what I ought to be, I am not what I wish to be. I am not what I hope to be but I thank God, I am not what I once was, and I can say with the great apostle, by the grace of God, I am what I am.”

Isn’t that beautiful? No more condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1)

Go out today and thank the Lord that by grace we are saved.
Jesus bless you and goodbye.
