Success

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 19th of July, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We start in the Book of Proverbs 27:1:

“Do not boast about tomorrow,
For you do not know what a day may bring forth.”

Then we go across to the Gospel of Luke 12:19-20:

“And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.” ’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’

We must never forget to say, “Lord-willing”. In Zulu we say, “ Sizokwenza lokhu noma sizokwenza lokho, Intando yeNkosi “ - “ We will do this or we will do that, Lord-willing.” Tomorrow, by the grace of God, we will wake up. We must be very careful not to become arrogant and forget that every good thing that you and I have or every successful achievement we have completed in our lives is only by God’s permission. We need to be so careful how we stand, lest we fall.

I just love to see a great sportsman run onto a rugby field in front of a huge crowd of 50,000 people, and that young man bows his knee in front of the whole crowd, and he prays, and he gives glory and honour to Jesus whom he knows only too well, allowed him to reach those great heights of glory. He also appreciates that it would only take one severe tackle on that field to put him out of the game for a few months or even a few years.

So, what is the conclusion? Do we walk around in fear and trembling? Not at all. What we do is, we enjoy what God has given us, whether it be a successful business, a successful farming venture, whether it be qualifications that you have received at university, honours degree, masters, whether it be a ministry that is succeeding. Folks, I do not start preaching on a platform without bowing my knee first and asking God to give me the words to speak because I know without Him, I am useless, but the Bible tells us if Christ is for us, who can stand against us? Romans 8:31.

Never forget where the success comes from. Have a wonderful day!
Jesus bless you and goodbye.
