Love Your Wife

It is Sunday morning, 16th January, the year 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“But Queen Vashti refused to come at the king's command brought by his eunuchs; therefore the king was furious, and his anger burned within him.”

Esther 1:12

And then straight across to Ephesians 5:22 & 25

“Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.”

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her”

I want to say there is nothing more humiliating for a man when his wife publicly disobeys him. That is what happened in the Book of Esther. She was the most beautiful woman. The king called for her, he wanted to show her in front of all his nobles but she refused. It brings tremendous insecurity to everyone when the wife refuses to submit to her husband.

I am thinking particularly of children, little children - they get so upset when mom and dad just will not get on, and the husband loses respect among his colleagues at work and in the social structure. It breaks down a marriage quicker than anything else. We need to clearly understand here today that the marriage institution, the covenant between a man and a woman is not a good idea - it is God’s commandment, and it is for the benefit of the whole family.

Disobedience causes division, rebellion and complete breakdown - that is the devil’s plan. He wants to destroy the family because he knows how much it hurts the Heart of God.

But husbands do not make it hard for your wife to submit to you. If you are a lazy man who cannot get out of your bed in the morning or put food on the table for your family, if there is no discipline in the home or if you are completely selfish, it is extremely hard for her to submit to you. Love her by looking after her, protecting her, looking after the children, making sure they respect mom and all of a sudden things will change completely. It is a beautiful snowball effect.

You see the more you love and cherish her, the more she will willfully submit to you, and most importantly, the children in the home will flourish.

Jesus bless you.
Goodbye.
