Children of Light

And a very good morning to you! It is Saturday morning, 19th March, the year 2022. And this is your friend, Angus Buchan with a thought for today.

If we go straight to the word of God, to John 12:35 and this is Jesus speaking:

“Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtakes you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.”

I think you will agree with me that we are living in a very dark world at the moment, with the rumours of a world war, viruses, disease and sickness and where immorality is blatant - It is a dark place. But the good news is Jesus is the Light of the world!

Now, remember, light always overcomes darkness. Walk into a dark room, strike a match and what happens? The darkness has to leave, it cannot be where there is light. We, as the children of Jesus Christ, as the sons and daughters of light, need to shine like never before.

Thomas the disciple, said to Jesus when He said He was going ahead to prepare a place for them: “How do we know the way, Lord?” Remember that beautiful verse in John 14:6:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

We have a thirty-foot cross on the farm and it has got a timed switch attached to it. When it gets dark on the farm, the light comes on and the whole cross lights up... It is magnificent! There is an airstrip on the farm next to us and a lot of planes land there, often the pilots say, if it is a misty night, they look for that bright shining cross on the hill, next to the little chapel that my dad and I built in 1980, and then they see their way home. Now, that cross was built by a man by the name of Mike. Mike was my neighbour, he was a wonderful man, a forester. He had a tragedy in his life, his son was killed, his only son. He has two beautiful daughters as well. His son was killed in a hit and run tragedy by a driver who did not wait at all... He was absolutely broken.

He arrived at the door of my farm office one morning and I could see that his bottom lip was trembling. He was very, very emotional. He said, “I had a dream last night.” Now to my understanding, Mike wasn’t even a Christian then. “I had a dream last night, I dreamt that there was a big cross on this farm on this high spot. Would you mind if I erected it?” I said, “Mike, you can erect a hundred if you want!” And he put that cross up on the farm, and then we put the lights up as well.

Mike became a very strong Christian after that - him, his wife, daughters and his mother-in-law. We used to have Bible Study at their home. Mike and Colleen have gone to be with Jesus, they have gone to be with their son. I want to say to you today that this is the time to shine in a dark world. People will come to you and you can introduce them to the Light of the world - His name is Jesus!

Have a wonderful day, Jesus bless you,
Goodbye.
