What is Man...

It is Saturday morning, 26th March, the year 2022. And this is your friend, Angus Buchan with a thought for today.

If we go straight to the Psalms, oh I love the Psalms:

“What is man that You are mindful of him?” the word of God says.

Psalm 8:4

And then Job, one of my favourite books and I am reading from Job 38:1:

Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:
“Who is this who darkens counsel
By words without knowledge?
Now prepare yourself like a man;
I will question you, and you shall answer Me”.

Verse 4:
“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?”

Wow, we mustn’t get too big for our boots! Early this morning before the sun came up, I went out for a ride on my mountain bike and I looked up into the sky. What a beautiful sky, full of stars early this morning... It started to get a little bit chilly because, in South Africa, we are going into Autumn. I know in the northern hemisphere, you are going into spring. I looked up and there it was... The magnificence of the mighty southern cross in the sky and right next to it were the two pointers. Father God is so faithful, isn’t He? He is so steadfast, He is so reliable and He is just so big!

You know, it reminded me of years ago when I was up in Central Africa. I was preaching the Gospel, with our team, to an unreached people and right in the middle of the bush, late one night, I came out of my little tent, my one-man tent. I looked up into the sky and then a friend of mine, standing next to me said, “Angus, can you see the southern cross? You can only see it in the Southern Hemisphere.” I said, “I can see it.” He said, “Do you see the two pointers next to it?” I said, “Yes.” He said, "Take a straight line from the top of the cross to the bottom and a straight line through the middle of the two pointers, where they join, that is dead south.” And I looked up and I did that and I thought, “My little wife and my little children are on that small farm called Shalom, they are nicely tucked into bed and the Holy Spirit is there with them and He has put His angels around that home.” And I felt so at peace.

I want to say to you today, stop arguing about God. Now, I am sending you a little pic. You can look at it on your device or your cell phone. It is of two little boys, my sister sent this to me from London. Two little boys are looking up in the sky, they look like farm boys with their dungarees on, and this is what is written underneath: “Sometimes I just look up, smile and say, “I know that was You, God. Thank You.”

I want to tell you, I love Him so much. Folks, don’t argue with God. He is in Heaven and we are on Earth. Just love Him and appreciate what He has done for you.

Have a wonderful Saturday,
God bless you and goodbye.
