Idle Promises

In the Word of God, Mark 6:22, when king Herod said to the young maiden who danced before him:

“Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.”

Remember her mother hated John the Baptist and when King Herod said to the young girl after she had danced so beautifully before him, ask whatever you want and I'll give it to you, she went and asked her mother and her mother said, tell her that I want John the Baptist's head on a platter.
Now, John the Baptist was admired by King Herod. He didn't really like him, but he respected him greatly, and so it grieved him to have to follow through with the request. We see in verse 26, “And the king was exceedingly sorry; yet, because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he did not want to refuse her.”

As we look forward to a brand new year, let us not make promises that we have no intention of keeping because we will have to follow through with them.
Let us think carefully before we commit ourselves into any deal or any agreement in this New Year.

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day.
