Born Again

In the column of my bible I wrote the following many years ago, “No time left! Got to speak up.” That was written next to the bible scripture, John 4:35, in which Jesus says, “Do not say there are still four months and then comes the harvest. Behold I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest.”

Just yesterday, when preaching in Johannesburg, the Pastor asked me before the service, to please be very specific when making the invitation to come forward for repentance. He said often people come forward for numerous issues like bitterness, unforgiveness, fear etc. and when the counsellors want to help them, the folk say that they are already believers. So, when I had completed the sermon, and made the alter call – specifically for those who have never prayed the sinner’s prayer – I was astonished to see in excess of 650 folk come forward to be “born again”.

It is indeed harvest time. We need to get back to basics and to stop entertaining people. They need to be born again (John 3:3).

At the alter there was much weeping, brokenness and repentance, especially among the younger folk. They want the gospel straight; the whole truth with none of the froth and bubbles.

Let us roll up our sleeves and get out there. Let’s get into the harvest fields, for the harvest is ripe and ready for reaping, but it must be the undiluted Gospel without all the frills because “Unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God”. (John 3:3)

Your fellow harvesters,
Angus and Jill Buchan.
