In the Beginning
In the beginning, was the Word. God said: “Let there be light"; and there was light.
Genesis 1:1,3
In John 1:1, God tells us that in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. Who was the Word? The Word, of course, is Jesus and that same Jesus was, and is, and is to come!
Isn't that wonderful news to hear?
Particularly now, when we live in a world that has no direction - where men are running to and fro with no hope, no idea of what the future holds and no concept of good or bad. The Holy Bible is the anchor which we must hold onto, in the face of tremendous stormy weather.
Sitting in my little prayer room early this morning, I am once again so encouraged to read that our God, not only created heaven and earth with a Word, but He also determined its weather patterns and the night and day, over this magnificent planet we call home.
Just over a week ago my son and I were flying home from Canada, having spoken at the first-ever Mighty Men Conference there. We flew over the Northern Hemisphere, over Greenland, North Scotland, Ireland to eventually landed in Germany. After an eight-hour layover, we flew South to our beloved home: South Africa! What an incredibly beautiful place Father has created for you and me... just by speaking out one Word.
Jesus is the Word! He made all things - the night, the day and the weather. As a farmer, this is so comforting to know.
I have been asked to go to the Northern Cape this week, to a little farming community called Williston, to call the people of that district together to pray for rain. Those poor folk have had no rain for four years! Their livestock are perishing and the people are extremely depressed.
So, with what confidence or hope can I go to that place of devastation, to believe for the impossible to take place? To pray for life-giving rain to fall on the dry and desolate ground, in a place which looks almost like a God-forsaken land?
This morning, in my small quiet-time room on Shalom Farm, the Spirit of God has reminded me again of the importance and the power of God's spoken Word of Faith!
Matthew 7:7: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you.” So that is what we are going to do. We are going to speak out God's Holy Word, by faith, and the rest we are leaving to the Creator of heaven and earth Himself - Father God, our absolute Weatherman. Yes indeed, people of the Northern Cape, help is on its way!
We as His people will pray prayers of repentance. We will ask for forgiveness from the Lord for areas in our lives where we have doubted His sovereignty and again, give Jesus Christ first place in our lives. Then leave the rest to Him, knowing that He will heal the land. 2 Chronicles 7:14.
Help is on its way and it applies to every single situation in our lives: sickness, disease, finances, etc, darkness must go as we speak out, in faith, the oracles of the Living God over our lives.
“My dear friend calls unto Him, and He will answer you.” Jeremiah 33:3.
God Bless,
Angus and Jill Buchan.
