He Has Never Done Me Wrong

Polycarp, one of the Fathers of the faith taught by the Apostle John, when confronted by the Roman oppressors who said: "Deny Christ and live", replied: “Eighty-six years I have served Him. He has never done me wrong. How then can I blaspheme my King who has saved me?” With that reply, they burnt the old man at the stake!

On the 18th of February 1979, my dear wife Jill, our little family and I gave our lives to Jesus, (forty-one years ago). We can echo the beautiful words of that martyr: “He has never done us wrong“.

We were so overwhelmed by God’s goodness and the fact that the Lord Jesus Christ had given us new life, a new beginning, that I wanted to give the farm away and go to Bible college to become a Pastor!
So I left the farm, with Jill standing at the gate with all our small children, heading for the Drakensberg mountains to get clarity from Jesus. After six days of fasting and praying on the mountain I received the clear Word from God: “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work”. (2 Corinthians 9:8).

When I returned home Jill was waiting for me with a huge smile on her beautiful face, not nervous at all to hear what this radical was going to tell her. I said to her, do you know what Jesus told me up on the mountain? She replied confidently, “Yes, that we are to stay on the farm and to use it to bless others”, the scripture verse is 2 Corinthians 9:8. Well my legs went to jelly, remembering that we were still very much babes in the faith...

He will never ever fail you either! Simply follow hard after Him, as the Saint Polycarp did.
