Adversity & Turmoil

So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
— Hebrews 13:6 (NKJV)

That is also found in Psalm 27:1 (NKJV) The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?

I don’t know what you are going through at this present time but everywhere we look people are suffering. Maybe it is through unemployment, the loss of a loved one, or you just don’t see any future in your work because everything is locked down. You are missing your family or overseas and feeling alone amid this Coronavirus and all the hardship that goes with it.

Like never before, we need to spend time with the Lord - I know you hear that coming from this desk continually, but it’s the only thing that keeps me going. The other morning I was interviewed for a radio programme and the announcer said: "How is it that you are always so positive and you always look so happy?" I said: "Because I spend time with God in the morning."

Remember what you take in is what comes out and if you are continually focusing on the bad news it will eventually pull you down. You need to focus on the Good News and the Good News is that the Lord is our Helper. As long as He is there we have nothing to fear.

Maybe you are feeling lonely because of a severed relationship caused by death, well in Proverbs 18:24 (NKJV) "But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother..." and that is a fact! So, therefore, we do not have to be afraid.

It's happened in my own life more than once. I have found, in my own life, that it is really when times get tough that He is closer to me than ever before - so reach out and touch Him and He will be there for you. If we look at the apostles that went before us, they walked the same road that you and I are walking on and they kept their eyes fixed on the Lord and the Lord brought them through.

So God bless you this week as you walk closely with Jesus.

Your friend,
Angus Buchan
