Waiting

Be still, and know that I am God...
— Psalms 46:10 (NKJV)

Another word for still is maybe to wait. Sometimes we wonder, "Lord why are you waiting so long..." Remember the story of Lazarus, he had been dead in the tomb for four days and as we know, in the Middle East, a body has to be buried the same day it dies because it starts to disintegrate. Well, Jesus was four days in coming. He wasn’t late and He wasn’t early - He was always spot on time.

Sometimes the Lord allows us to wait until we come to the end of our tether or the end to ourselves before He steps in. A good example of waiting is a professional lifesaver, down at the seaside: When a swimmer gets into trouble and if the lifeguard is on his own, he’ll sometimes swim out and will allow the swimmer to quieten down or maybe even lose quite a bit of strength before he goes in to help. Otherwise, the swimmer might drown them both - We need to wait.

I remember like yesterday a dear friend of mine and I, after I had come to know the Lord Jesus Christ, were travelling to a stock sale. We were going to buy cattle together and I told him I had given my life to the Lord Jesus and he said he was so happy for me. I asked him if he would like to do the same but he declined. However, about two years later, on a Saturday afternoon, I was sitting in my farm office and the phone rang - it was this friend of mine. He said "Angus, please come. I need you. I cannot go on any longer." I had the privilege of going to his house and on the carpet in his living room, with his family around him, he bowed the knee and accepted Christ as Lord and Saviour.

FB Meyer the great preacher says: “God’s delays are not denials or neglectful, or unkind. He is waiting for the correct moment to bless us.” Today, let us go out and bless someone else but remember - timing is always of the essence.

Jesus bless you,
