Humility

The Lord tells us very clearly in the Gospel of Luke 14:11 (NKJV),

“For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Even as I read that scripture this morning, I was reminded of a very special banquet that I was invited to a few years ago. It was a celebration of a new business centre that had been opened by a very dear friend of mine.

When we arrived at the board meeting, it was brand new, it was beautiful, there were many dignitaries in that hall. There was a huge boardroom table with many chairs around it, with a glass top covering a beautiful oak table. I was very much the stranger there, having come from the farm in KZN, travelling up to the big smoke, Johannesburg. So I went and I sat right down at the bottom of the table and I was quite amused, as I saw many of the distinguished three piece suited gentlemen jockeying for position as close as they could to the chairman, seated at the top of the table. I sat there for a while, then a young man walked up to me and said, “Sir you are required at the top of the table.”  So I had to get out of my chair, walk past all the men who were clamouring for position, and one man who was sitting very close to the chairman, was asked to please go and sit at the bottom of the table, and I was seated next to the chairman himself.

It was a great honour for me obviously, and the man that was relegated down to the bottom was very embarrassed.

Jesus sees everything, He sees our hearts and He is so practical. Today, humble yourself in the sight of God and He will promote you. That is the only promotion that you will ever need.

 Jesus bless you
