Confession
One of the most liberating scriptures in the Bible is found in 1 John 1:9 (NKJV):
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
It was the second memory verse I memorized after John 3:16 (NKJV) which states:
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." I wonder why so many of us are so reluctant to ask the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sin. I can only think it comes from a heart and a spirit of arrogance and pride - "It’s not my fault or Why should I say sorry first? Why should I go to that person and ask for forgiveness when in fact, it wasn’t my fault!”
I believe that the devil himself will try as hard as he can to prevent you and me from saying sorry. Because you see, when we say sorry there’s liberty, there’s a freedom that comes with it and then we can face the world. I would encourage you today to pick up that phone, write that email, visit that person and deal with that issue that you have with each other. You will find that it will restore your relationship, it will remove that '50kg bag of cement' that you’ve been carrying - some for many years.
It’s when we ask forgiveness that God gives us freedom and liberty. I remember like yesterday praying at the altar rail as a fairly new Christian, I was praying for the sick... An old lady came forward and knelt saying "I am struggling with migraine headaches."
I said to her "Do you have an issue of unforgiveness against someone, maybe a member of your family?"
She was outraged at my statement and said: "I came here to receive prayer, that God would heal me of my migraines and what you are speaking about has got nothing to do with healing."
I said, "I believe it has and if you go home and forgive that person and confess your sin to God, the Lord will heal you." The next week she came back and said she hadn't had a headache the whole week because she went to God and confessed her sin of unforgiveness and then phoned that loved one and forgave them - and God healed her.
Today, deal with that unconfessed sin and you will have life abundantly.
