A Grain Of Wheat

It is Sunday, 11th October 2020, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for the day.

If we go to the Gospel of John Chapter 12 and verse 24, Jesus says:

“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain”.

And then if we look at the Passion Translation, it says the same thing but only in modern English:

“Let me make this clear. A single gain of wheat will never be more than a single grain of wheat, unless it drops into the ground and dies, because then it sprouts and produces a great harvest of wheat, all because one grain dies.”

I remember like it was yesterday, we had one of our earlier Mighty Men Conferences on the farm.

There was an old gentleman who arrived in his little pick-up, his bakkie.

He was all by himself. He put up his little one-man tent and he sat, looking out over the farm.

Nobody noticed him particularly.

He was quiet and he was spending time in the presence of his God.

That night, as the cars were still coming in to the meeting, I couldn’t sleep.

I was so excited. I just heard these vehicles coming in all night, but in the middle of the night, some of the men came down to the farmhouse and woke me up and said, “A man has just died.”

Well, immediately, I thought to myself, “Well, that is the end of the event.”

But you know, quite the opposite took place because when everyone realized that the old gentleman had gone to be with Jesus, there was a tremendous seriousness that came over the camp.

There was much repenting and much weeping and much humility.

There was no fooling around.

Thousands and thousands of men started to count the costs to get their lives back into order, to realize this is no game. This is the real thing.

When we contacted his dear wife, a wonderful christian lady she said to me, “There would have been no other place that he would have preferred to leave this world from, than to have been in the presence of all his christian brothers.

I want to say to you today, don’t take so much care of this life but be prepared for the life to come, for we don’t know how much time we have.

The time that we have, let us use it profitably to influence other people’s lives and to tell them about the Lord Jesus Christ.

God bless you and have a wonderful, restful Sunday.
