Conquered Victor

It is Friday, 6th November 2020, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for the day.

If we go to the Gospel of Mark, Chapter 8 and verse 36, the New King James Versions says:

“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”

The Passion Translation Modern Version says:

“For what use is it to gain all the wealth and power of this world, with everything it could offer you, at the cost of your own life?”

Absolutely worthless, isn’t it, and yet how many of us are doing that right now?

I was speaking to my son, Fergie, and he was reminding me that they did a survey with many world class athletes and they said, “If you could take a special drug that would make you the champion of the world, the fastest runner, the best football player, the best rugby player, and it would shorten your life by ten years, would you do it?”

And just about 90% of them said they would do it.

Short-sighted. Short-sighted!

Remember, Esau and Jacob? Esau sold his birthright for a bowl of red lentil soup. Don’t do that!

We need to be so very careful that we do not win the fight but lose the war.

I saw one of the most startling sculptures I think I have ever seen in my life, probably because I am a naturalist, and I am farmer, and The Lord speaks to me so much by nature - a sculpture done by Hennie Potgieter, of two beautiful kudu bulls with those long horns, entwined in a fight to the death.

And underneath it is a sign that says: “Conquered Victor.”

Conquered Victor!

Be careful that you and I don’t become conquered victors, because you see what happened is, that they got themselves entwined, didn’t they?

And they couldn’t get loose.

So the one that won the fight also died because both of them died together.

Don’t short change someone for example, and think you will get away with it You won’t.

Don’t get locked in with someone on a dishonest deal and end up going to jail.

You might make some extra money in the short term but you will pay for it in the longterm.

Don’t deal with unsavoury characters.

It could ruin your life.

Don’t get involved with someone who is not your wife or your husband, and think you will just have a fling for the weekend - and make them pregnant, and then you will, for the rest of your life, pay a very severe price.

But keep your eyes fixed on Jesus.

Remember, Matthew Chapter 6 and verse 33 says:

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these (other) things shall be added to you.”

Do it God’s way and God will give you the eternal victory.

Have a wonderful day and God bless you.
