Wisdom
It is Saturday, 7th November, 2020, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for the day.
If we go to the Book of Proverbs in the Old Testament, Chapter 2 and I am reading from verse 10:
“When wisdom enters your heart,
And knowledge is pleasant to your soul,
Discretion will preserve you;
Understanding will keep you”
If ever we needed wisdom, we need it now.
In a world that has literally gone upside down, where people are scrambling everywhere, where people have to make serious choices, they need wisdom.
You and I need wisdom.
Wisdom comes through the Bible, through God’s Holy Word.
To make that business transaction you need wisdom.
And we need to be extravagant.
This is the time for the Christian to stand up and be counted, to attempt great things for God and expect great things from God.
Just like William Carey said, the man who went to India to preach the Gospel.
It is time for you and me to get out of the boat and to start walking on the water.
“Why?” you might ask.
Well, because the boat is sinking and it is only men and women of faith that will survive.
If we go to John Chapter 15 and verse 7, one of my favourite verses, the Word of God says:
“If you abide in Me, (in the Word) and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”
I remember so clearly, that dreaded El Nino, that drought, that was threatening our beloved South Africa, so many years ago, and I was seeking the Face of God, and I felt The Lord say:
“Go home and plant potatoes.”
I was in Kingspark Rugby Stadium in Durban when I made that outrageous statement, but do you know why?
Because people were losing hope, people were panicking, and The Lord said, “This is not a time to draw back.”
If Christ be for you, there is no man who will stand against you.
I went back home and I prepared the land, I bought the seed and I started to plant potatoes with no irrigation.
My neighbors were so concerned about me. “Angus, this will send you one way. You will go bankrupt.”
I said, “No, I have had a word from God”, and I planted those potatoes and I leased the farms next door and I did the same there. I planted maize and we trusted God.
Yes, we sweated blood many a time, but you know something? The Lord came through. We had a lovely crop of potatoes and we had maize and we continued farming.
Do not be afraid. Seek wisdom. Seek the Word of God.
Write it down. Make it plain and then run with it and God will see you through.
Have a wonderful weekend.
