Rise Above The Storm
Rise above the storm.
The Lord says to us in the Song of Solomon, that beautiful love story:
“My beloved, spoke and said to me, ‘Rise up, my love, my fair one and come away.”
He says again, in Song of Solomon, Chapter 2, verse 14:
“Oh my dove, in the clefts of the rock,
In the secret places of the cliff,
Let me see your face,
Let me hear your voice;
For your voice is sweet,
And your face is lovely.”
Rise above the storm.
Come away my beloved.
If we go the Gospel of Mark, Chapter 6 and verse 32, it says to His disciples, “So they departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves.”
The Lord wants you to come apart.
Now, you can’t leave your responsibilities. The Lord is not saying that but what He is saying is, “Spend time with Me in the quiet place.”
I remember like it was yesterday, many years ago, going up to the mighty Drakensburg Mountains which are about an hour’s drive, West from our farm, those beautiful majestic mountains, early one morning.
I had been fasting and praying on my own and it was the middle of the week. There was nobody there and I took a slow walk up that path, right up into the foothills and above into the high places.
I had a pair of running shoes on, a pair of shorts and a T-shirt.
I wasn’t prepared for any weather changes and as any mountaineer will tell you, in the Drakensburg Mountains, you can get four seasons in one day.
That’s right - the sun can be shining in the morning and snow can be falling in the afternoon.
It is a dangerous place. You need to be ready, but it is a majestic place.
And as I walked right up it was a summers day and it was hot, very hot and you get those summer storms in the afternoons.
And as I got up to the high place, a storm came but the storm was below me.
The Lord says, “Rise above the storm.”
I sat on a rock and I watched the lightning and I heard the thunder and the pouring rain and I was sitting there in the sunshine and speaking to The Lord.
What an incredible experience that was.
And after a couple of hours, I came walking down that same path.
There were little river-lets of water running down from the storm.
People had their raincoats on and I was totally dry and at peace.
We are in a storm.
There is no doubt about it but The Lord says to you today, “Rise above the storm. I want you to rest in Me.”
