I Am God's Donkey
If we go to the Old Testament, to Deuteronomy, Chapter 7 and from verse 6:
“For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth. The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; but because the Lord loves you,…”
Oh, my dear friend, I want to tell you today, God loves you!
Why? I really don’t know. He loves me too and I can’t figure that one out… but He does!
He says in John, Chapter 15 and verse 16:
“You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.”
Isn’t that wonderful news that God chose you and me?
We are not the sharpest tools in the shed, are we?
No, not at all.
I remember, many years ago, an international preacher came to South Africa, and I was listening to one of his messages, and he said something that disturbed me. I was only a new Christian at the time.
He said, “You will never make a racehorse out of a donkey.” And everybody laughed and I sat there and I thought, “No sir, I don’t know how well you know the Bible, but I want to tell you, I am God’s donkey and He is making me into a racehorse.” Why? Because He loves me.
You know, “grace” means undeserved, loving-kindness - unmerited favor.
I don’t deserve to be chosen by God. You don’t deserve to be chosen by God but He chose us simply because He loves us.
Somebody said something very special a long time ago. “You can’t do anything to make Jesus love you any more, and you can’t do anything to make Him love you any less.”
He just loves you because of who you are.
I walked into the kitchen just now to see Jill, and she was pulling out a beautiful tray of freshly baked rusks and they smelled delicious.
And she made those rusks, not because she had to but she made them because she loves me, and I want to tell you that Jesus loves you so much that He died for you and he chose you.
Now go into the world today and bear much fruit.
Tell other people as well, that Jesus loves them.
