Concentrate On The Main Thing
Matthew Chapter 13 and verse 24. This is a story that Jesus told:
“The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field;
but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares (that’s weeds) among the wheat and went his way.
But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares (weeds) also appeared.
So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field?
How then does it have tares?’ (weeds)
He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’
The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’
But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares (weeds) you also uproot the wheat with them.
Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the (weeds) tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.”
I really believe The Lord says to us this morning, “Do not be distracted.” Those little pests that wreak havoc in the crop - Song of Songs, Chapter 2 verse 15 says, “the little foxes that spoil the vines.”
The hindrances that can spoil a relationship - don’t allow it to upset you.
Concentrate on the big picture.
Major on your majors.
I remember many, many years ago as a young preacher, I went down to East London, to the Orient Theatre.
It was a wonderful campaign.
One night, the hall was full. We had about a thousand people there and there was a heckler.
He was sitting at the back. He had had too much to drink and he started to challenge me all the time.
Every time I said something, he would say, “Can you prove that preacher? Where does it say that in the Bible?”
But you know, God taught me to concentrate on the main thing - the Gospel and the 999 people seated there.
I never looked at him. I never took any notice of him.
I kept my eyes on the crowd and concentrated on the good seed.
You know that we had some men there who came beside him.
They had been quietly trained.
They took him out of the hall and I found out about two weeks later that that young man gave his life to Christ.
You see, if you concentrate on the main thing, The Lord sorts out the rest.
