Manna

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”

As we look around us and we see a lot of our businesses, even our personal possessions just falling through our fingers like sand, we think, “How are we going to make it? How are we going to eat and to live?”

Well, that is exactly how the Israelites felt in the desert when they had no food.

There was no flour. There was no wheat and there was definitely no bread.

But what did God do?

God worked a miracle because He said that He would give them manna from heaven every morning.

It was like flakes coming down on the grass, that looked like dew onto the ground and they collected it every single day.

It was fresh. It was beautiful. It was tasty and is called “manna”. The literal translation of the word, “manna” means, “what’s that?”

They didn’t even know what it was but they collected it every morning and it was fresh.

The Lord says that you and I must not depend on our personal possessions in order to live.

We must feed on the Word of God every single day and that is how we will get through.

I remember many years ago, I had a beautiful crop of maize standing.

The cobs were fully formed and I was looking at about maybe a six-ton crop per hectare of seed maize, and then a storm came over, a massive storm - first the rain and then hail.

And I was sitting, speaking to a man I was helping.

He was an alcoholic and I was trying to tell him, “God will supply. You don’t have to worry. He will give you bread every day.”

And with that, the storm broke loose and it carried on for about half an hour, and after the storm was finished I started to walk through my field with him.

The field was flat. There was nothing standing and I must admit, I was devastated, and this man was watching me all the time, to see my reaction.

And I said with him with teeth-gritted, “God will supply my needs.”

Well, I didn’t sleep well that night but you know something? Three days later, and this is no lie - that crop literally stood up again.

Why? You see the heavy rain had softened the soil and when the hail came, the whole crop fell down but it didn’t break. It just lodged.

And when the sun came out, the crop stood up again. Oh yes! Those stalks had a permanent bow in them right until we reaped it but we reaped a bumper crop.

You must put your trust in Jesus.

He will supply your food and you must spend time in the Word daily, and that will take away any fear and any uncertainty that you have for the future.
