Wonderfully Made
Psalm 139:14, David is speaking and he says:
“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.”
And you might be sitting there and saying, “No humility there!” But I want to tell you something - that very few people knew God like King David.
And then we go to 2 Samuel, Chapter 6, and this is what Michal who was David’s wife said: “How glorious was the king of Israel today, uncovering himself today in the eyes of the maids of his servants, as one of the base fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!” She was scorning David because he danced before the Lord with an ephod on - which was his underwear.
And David said, “And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humbled in my own sight.” Sadly in verse 23: “Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death.” Because of the way in which she scorned God’s anointed.
I want to say to you today, we must stop taking ourselves so seriously. We must really start thanking God for whom He has created.
You know I really love children, do you know why?
Because they are so innocent and so pure and so natural. They are teaching me so much, I really mean that folks! You know, I am very privileged, I have eleven grandchildren: three lovely girls and eight lovely boys, and their characters are so important to me.
I remember once doing a book signing and a little boy came up to me, probably three or four years old. He had a pen in one hand and one of my books in the other hand. He had a cellphone and his face was quite red, he was a little bit shy, and I said: “Son, would you like me to sign your book?” He said, “ Yes please, Sir.” And I said, “Would you like to take a photograph with me?
And he said, “Yes, please Sir,”
And I asked another lady, “Can you take a photo of us?”
At that moment a woman walked passed, she looked at me and scowled and said, “Christians are supposed to be humble!” They say the same thing about Mighty Men. “How can you call men of God, mighty?”
We are not mighty in our own strength - We are mighty in the Lord!
We mustn’t take ourselves so seriously.
My two youngest grandchildren, a little girl - she is three and a little boy who turned six years old yesterday. And he went to school. He was so excited. He took a big cake full of strawberries because his uncle grows strawberries and as they stopped, (my daughter told me the story), at the school, he wound his window down. Two of his little friends walked past, two little girls and he said, “Hey girls! What is so special about me today?”
"Aaah lovely!" he said, “It’s my birthday!” And they looked at each other as if he had lost it. His teenage brother was so embarrassed that he tried to hide underneath the front seat!
I want to say to you, my little grand-daughter comes down to see her granny, “Gogo”. She is dressed up. She has got bangles on her wrist, she has bracelets hanging all over the place, she has ribbons in her hair and she looks so special.
Go out today and remember - God created you in His own image.
Have a wonderful day, God bless you and goodbye.
