The Mina

It is Monday morning, 6th December, the year 2021, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return. So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Do business till I come.”

Luke 19:12-

By the way, one mina was worth about three months salary. We need to do business, Jesus says, until He returns. This is not a time for us to drawback. The best form of defence is to attack, that’s right - Do not become intimidated by the lies of the devil. I looked up the word, Intimidated. It means to frighten or to overawe, do not be intimidated by the devil.

You know in rugby they say: “Use it or lose it". When the ball is in the scrum you only have a few seconds to get that ball out to your team, otherwise, the referee blows the whistle and it goes to the opposing team. I remember when I played rugby many, many, many years ago - We used to wrestle for that ball. It seemed like for hours but not today. Today, you have a few seconds, if you don’t use it, you use it.

Now Jesus goes on to say, at the end of this parable, that he gave the one mina (this is the man who hid the money, who didn’t use it) and he gave it to the man who had ten minas. Now even the people said in verse 25 “But Master he (already) has ten minas." Jesus said:

“Everyone who has will be given; and from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.”

You and I have got to keep on living, we have got to keep on doing business until the Lord returns. You know, it is like a sailing ship that is moored in the harbour. That sailing ship is hiding from the storm but it is not going anywhere. But that ship out at sea, even if the wind is contrary and blowing the wrong way, it is moving. The wise skipper can tack against the wind and still continue on his journey and eventually arrives at his destination.

This week, let's do business until He comes.

God bless you,
And have a wonderful day.
