Prince of Peace

It is Sunday morning, 26th December, the year 2021 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan with a thought for today.

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

John 14:27

What a beautiful word, isn’t it? And then we go straight to John 16:33, Jesus says:

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

You know, my late dad, he was in the Second World War and he never spoke about his experiences, I think because they were too painful for him. He was captured in North Africa and he spent three and a half years in a prisoner of war camp, in Germany and Italy. My mom used to tell us about one incident that impacted his life very greatly.

It was on a cold frosty night in Germany at Christmas time. He was standing, looking through a barbed-wire fence. He was probably missing his family, wondering when the war was going to end, trying to deal with what he was going through with the tragedy of his fellow soldiers dying all around him... All of a sudden, he heard the most beautiful singing from little children. He looked out through that barbed-wire fence, it was a full moon that night, and there was a frozen pond. On it, were little children ice skating and they were singing Silent Night in German. It gave him tremendous hope and peace in that turbulent time of his life.

The Prince of Peace is found everywhere - His name is Jesus. Do you remember that beautiful song:

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone,
And because I know, yes, I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living, just because He lives.

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful, peaceful day.
Goodbye.
