Finish It

It is Wednesday morning, 29th December 2021 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“So I sent messengers to them, saying, "I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?"

Nehemiah 6:3

You see, Nehemiah was rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem and the enemy was trying to confuse him and dissuade him. They kept calling him to come down for a meeting but he wanted to finish the work the Lord had given to him. Do not become distracted. Finish the work God has given you to do. Remember, it is not how well you start the race that counts - It is how well you finish the race that counts. We have got to complete the task.

You know the old saying: “A rolling stone gathers no moss.” God will not give us a new project until we complete the one He set before us. I am thinking about things like, for example, your marriage. That’s right, you made a commitment. You have to see it through.

I remember, they asked Ruth Graham, the wife of the famous evangelist, Dr Billy Graham, “Have you ever contemplated divorcing Billy?”
She said, “Divorce, never... Murder, often!”

We have got to finish the race. You have got to finish your university degree, it doesn’t matter how tough it is - You have made a commitment. Your apprenticeship, you must complete it so that you can get your papers.

The Lord Jesus Christ finished His work here on earth. Remember just before He died on the cross, He said:

“It is finished!” and bowing His head, He gave up His Spirit.”
John 19:30.

I know from experience, God will never give you a new project until the old one is completed. In Revelation 3:8, the Lord says very clearly to us:

“I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.”

Don’t try and break the door down. The Lord will open the one door as soon as you have completed the task and He will close the other door.

I know in my case, with my grandchildren - For you, it might be your little child... What do you say to him? “When you have finished your food, then I will give you some pudding.”

You and I need to finish the job.

Have a wonderful day.
God bless you and goodbye.
