Voice of The Lord

It is Sunday morning, 29th May 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

If we go to Psalm 29:4:

“The voice of the Lord is powerful;
The voice of the Lord is full of majesty.”

Isn’t that a beautiful verse?

He said to the sea, “Be still, peace.” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

Mark 4:39

How does God speak to us? He speaks to us in many different ways... He speaks to us through His creation, He speaks to us through His elements but we need to listen. People have oftentimes asked me if I have heard the voice of God. The answer is many times, but never audibly. Not many people have and have lived to tell the tale. We serve a very mighty and powerful God. So how does He speak to me? Well, He speaks to me in my quiet times that I spend sitting, and waiting. He speaks to me through reading my Bible systematically. He speaks to me through other faithful believers. Oh yes, the Lord speaks to me through the weather, probably because I am a man of the land.

I remember like yesterday, I was in the United States of America. I was preaching at an open-air meeting, my favourite place, in the State of Tennessee, the deep South, with a beautiful, responsive crowd of people but it was extremely hot. The sun was beating down and I prayed aloud. I said, “Lord, please can you place a cloud over the sun to shelter these people that are getting burnt from the sun.” I was alright, I was on a big platform with a big canopy over me. You know, the Lord put a cloud over that sun! It stayed there until the end of the meeting.

Now, I can hear someone saying, “Oh Angus, that was just a coincidence.” Funny you should say that because the other clouds on either side were sailing passed merrily but that cloud remained - Covering the sun and sheltering God’s people. Yes, the Lord hears us and He speaks to us.
