Retirement?

A very good morning to you! It is Thursday morning, 2nd June 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

If we go straight to Psalm 92 and I am reading from verse 13:

“Those who are planted in the house of the Lord
Shall flourish in the courts of our God.
They shall still bear fruit in old age;
They shall be fresh and flourishing,
To declare that the Lord is upright;
He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.”

No such word as retirement in the Bible, only promotion! Remember, age is just a number. You know, I have met some young men half my age and what is very sad, for me, is they are already talking about their old-age pensions and where they are going to stay when they get old. One of my heroes in the Bible is Caleb. Do you remember Joshua and Caleb? They took the people into the promised land, he had a different spirit in him. You'll find that in Numbers 14:24:

“But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.”

When Caleb was 85 years old, Joshua said: “Because you have played such a great part, you can pick any part of the Promised Land to make your home.” Do you know what he did? He said, “Give me the big mountains, I love it, where the big giants live.” He went in and he cleaned it out, that is where he settled. That’s right, we are talking about Hebron. Remember, your attitude determines your altitude.

I just love being in the company of young men, they are so ambitious, full of vision and ideas. They are looking for challenges. But I also want to say to you, there is a dear old lady who contacted my office. She is in her mid-nineties, she listens to this message, the Thought for the Day, every single morning and she wants to speak to me. And guess what? I am going to phone her today because I want to hear this dear old soul, I want to hear her voice because Jesus is in her.

You know I have friends, dear friends, who are three years old, that’s right... four years old. They've send me the most beautiful pictures that have taken lots of time to draw and to colour in. They are pictures of Snowy, my horse, and myself... I want to tell you, move over Picasso! These pictures are worth more to me than millions of dollars.

Don’t waste a precious moment in your life. Go out today and live it for Jesus and also for your fellowman.
God bless you and goodbye.
