Take Your Time

A very good morning to you! It is Wednesday morning, 1st of June, the year 2022. And this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We go to that favourite old scripture of ours, Isaiah 40:31:

“But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength; (that’s right!)
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”

One of the most difficult things for us to do is to wait because we have been programmed in this day and age... Everything needs to be done at full pace, whether it is eating, exercising or decisions and it is a dangerous place to be! Acts 1:4 - the Lord Jesus says:

“…wait for the promise of the Father.”

That was before Pentecost. When we do something in haste, it is very often not of God. Now I am speaking from bitter experience. Every bad decision that I have ever made in my life, I am talking about in business and the family has always been when I have been rushing. For example, the car salesman says, “Buy it today. It is your last chance, it will be sold tomorrow” when you come back tomorrow it is still not sold, is it? And the price has even come down - Don’t be in a rush! I want to say to that young lady who is contemplating marriage, if your fiancé is putting pressure on you and saying, “If you don’t accept my proposal, I am moving on.” Tell him to move on because he is not the man for you. Jesus is never early and Jesus is never late. He is always on time.

Remember the story of his friend, Lazarus when he died. “Lord, if you had only been here my brother would have lived”, but Jesus raised him from the dead. You know, I am a beekeeper and those bees, I love them so much, they have taught me many lessons about not rushing. You see, when you are keeping bees, timing is of the essence. I go to my hives on a cloudy, cool, overcast day and they are well-behaved. But if I go on a hot day and the wind is blowing, I am asking for trouble. I have got to be sure that my smoker is working, that just calms them down. If I am in a rush and I don’t prepare my smoker, it normally goes out halfway through the work of the hive. I’ve got to put my bee suit on correctly because if I don’t they will sting me. I want to tell you that when I do it properly and take my time it is sheer pleasure.

Today, take your time. Wait on the Lord and He will direct your path.
Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day. Goodbye.
