For His Glory
It is Wednesday morning, 8th June 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.
If we go straight to1 Corinthians 1:31, the Lord says:
"… as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord."
Never touch God’s glory! Always give Him all the praise and the honour. Then we go to James 2:5:
“Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?”
Our Lord specialises in using nobodies and then He makes them into somebodies. You see, God will not share His glory with any man. Often, as a new Christian, I used to say, “Lord, why don’t You use some famous people, wealthy people or some influential people to do Your work? And I felt the Lord saying, “No, I don’t want anybody to take the glory.” You know, God took twelve nobodies and with those twelve nobodies, he changed the whole world. I am talking about fishermen, tax collectors, and zealots.
He took a young teenager to slay a mighty giant, that’s right - David killed Goliath, I think he was about thirteen years old, with a sling and a stone... Who got the glory? It was God. He took a failure, a man who had completely blown it, who was hiding in the desert, looking after his father-in-law’s sheep. He took him at eighty years old, folks, to deliver an entire nation from slavery. That’s right, I am talking about Moses. Jesus can use you and me as well if we can only believe. Mark 11:22.
I remember as a new believer, many years ago, going to a conference. An international speaker was speaking and he said, “You will never make a racehorse out of a donkey. I sat there and I rubbed my head and I thought, “No, no, he has got it the wrong way round.” God takes donkeys, like me and you, and He makes us into racehorses. The first time that I booked a stadium, an event hall, was the Town Hall in Ladysmith. I went to visit all the ministers in town and invited them to the conference. I wasn’t asking for anything, just to come and support us. I went to this one church and this man said to me, “Who is the speaker?” I said, “Me, Sir.” He looked at me up and down, I was in my farming clothes, and he said, “Well son, maybe God has sent you here to bend you a little bit.” I was quite shattered but anyway I carried on.
You know, in John 14:1, Jesus says:
“Believe in God. Believe also in Me.”
And God takes nobodies like you and me and with us, He will change the world. Have a wonderful day.
Jesus bless you and goodbye.
