False Accusation

A very good morning to you. It is Sunday morning, 6th of February and the year 2022. This is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence
From the plots of man;
You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion
From the strife of tongues.”

Psalm 31:20

Has anyone accused you lately of something that you didn’t do? Well, the man who wrote this psalm was David, he knew all about false accusations. Then if we go to the Book of Job:

“You shall be hidden from the scourge of the tongue,
And you shall not be afraid of destruction when it comes.”

Job 5:21

I looked up the meaning of scourge in the Oxford Dictionary and a scourge is a whip that was used as an instrument of punishment. It can be very painful, especially when someone accuses you of something you have not done or when that comment is not even true. But the Lord Jesus Christ has promised us that He will hide us from all the attacks on our character. The real question today is how does one handle untrue accusations or people who twist your words?

Well, we handle it the very same way that Jesus did. If we go to Matthew:

“Then Pilate said to Him, “Do You not hear how many things they testify against You?” But He answered him not one word, so that the governor marveled greatly.”

Matthew 27:13-14

Not one word... We need to seriously pray for our accusers, often they are speaking out of a heart of fear, jealousy or envy. If we don’t have anything good to say about someone then rather say nothing.

I love the story that I heard a long time ago about one of my heroes, Charles Haddon Spurgeon. They call him The Prince of Preachers. At the age of 21 they built him the London Tabernacle, which could seat 10,000 people.

He was walking down the High Street in London one day when someone walked up to him and said: “You are the chief of all humbugs.” I looked up what that word means - It means a hypocrite... “You are the chief of all hypocrites.” And this man of God’s reply was, “Oh well, at least I am the chief of something.” And that is the way to treat it!

Remember, Jesus loves you, so just love those who have a go at you because, at the end of the day, the truth always comes out. Have a wonderful Sunday.

Jesus bless you.
Goodbye.
