Count the Blessings

A very good morning to you! It is Saturday morning, the 5th of February. The year is 2022 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“But as for me, I would seek God,
And to God, I would commit my cause -
Who does great things, and unsearchable,
Marvellous things without number.”

Job 5:8

And then we go to Psalm 40:5:

“Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works
Which You have done;
And Your thoughts toward us
Cannot be recounted to You in order;
If I would declare and speak of them,
They are more than can be numbered.”

Wow, too many blessings to count - We need to be thankful today. We need to be full of gratitude for the goodness of God towards us. You know, it makes me sad when I see so many people are so ungrateful in the world... Always complaining, have never got enough or nothing is going right. We need to understand that the blessings of God towards us cannot even be numbered.

A good exercise is maybe to sit down with that cup of coffee or tea and count your blessings and name them one by one. Let's talk about rain, you know in South Africa at the moment we are having the most incredible rainy season that I can remember in forty-five years of farming. I have also just come back from the Kruger National Park and I have never seen the animals so fat. They were lying under the trees at nine o’clock in the morning and they are full - they can’t eat anymore.

Folks, I want to say to you that we have got so much to be grateful for. You know that scripture that says there are more blessings than we can even number. Now I am not talking about the parting of the Red Sea, I am talking about blessings that we take for granted.

I heard the story of a former alcoholic who was asked by a sarcastic person: “So what real difference has it made to you in your life since you have stopped drinking?” "Oh", he says, “When I go home now, I have got furniture in my house, my wife and my children have got food to eat. I tell you, that to me, that miracle is greater than the parting of the Red Sea.”

Today, we need to count our blessings and we need to number them one by one.

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:19

Have a wonderful day.
God bless you and goodbye.
