Life Abundant

And a very good morning to you! It is Thursday morning, 3rd of March, the year 2022. And this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

John 8:36

We need to turn our eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face, and the things of the world will grow strangely dim… Do you remember that old song? It was a beautiful old song. The things of this world do not last. They lose their lustre and their glamour but when we meet the Master, that is when life really begins. There is nothing else in this world that makes you more excited about the future as you get older, than when you become a Christian. Okay, there are a lot of people sitting in the waiting room, that's right, they are waiting to die but when you become a Christian life gets better as you get older.

You get the CEO who has been working all his life, running a large organisation, saving up his money... His dream is to have his own beach cottage right by the sea and to go out fishing every day. Eventually, he retires, he gets his beach cottage and he goes out every morning to fish but after a month or so he gets bored and stiff. He starts driving his poor wife around the bend, but when you meet Jesus, Jesus sets us free. We still enjoy fishing and the beach cottage but it is not the main reason we get up in the morning.

You see, Jesus sets us free from ourselves. Your biggest enemy, my biggest enemy, is ourselves. When we take our focus off of ourselves and we put our focus on Jesus, all of a sudden when you get up in the morning, the sun is shining brighter.

Remember the story written by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol - That mean old man, totally self-absorbed? His name was Scrooge. He was so mean. He had no family and remember on Christmas Eve, he wouldn’t let his employees go off, they had to work. He gave them nothing. Then he has a dream that he died and he went to hell. He's an elderly miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner, Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas, past, present and yet to come.

After that visit, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder and more gentle man. Why? Because he took his eyes off himself and he started to live for others. He goes out and buys a massive turkey for his employees and the family who had nothing, and his life just comes alive.

Today, Jesus will set you free and then you can start living a life that is full of purpose and joy. He said in John 10:10, the thief comes to steal, kill and destroy but I came that you might have life abundantly.

Enjoy your day today and go and bless someone.
Goodbye.
