The Great I Am

And a very good morning to you! It is Friday morning, 4th of March, the year 2022. And this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ”

Exodus 3:14

What a statement!

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

John 1:1

That’s right! But if we go to John 8:58, this is what the word of God says: “Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” Oh, Halleluja! Revelation 1:8 - He is the Alpha and the Omega. He is the Beginning and the End.

I want to ask you a question: Why did they kill Jesus?
Jesus was not a murderer, He was not an adulterer or a thief. He never did anything wrong. The Bible says He was so gentle that He did not even break a bent reed, or even extinguish a smouldering flax.

Why did they kill Him? Do you know why they killed Him... Because He said, “I AM.” He said, “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father because the two of Us are One Person. Emanuel - God with us.” No other reason. I want to ask you a question this morning and you need to answer it: Who do you say He is?

Many, many years ago I had the privilege of going to Great Britain. I went to the Welsh Agricultural Show, The Royal Show. What an incredible event. I had never seen such beautiful animals in my life before. I asked if I could do a film in the shed where they were preparing all the bulls for the finals.

Now there were magnificent bulls there. There were Charolais - they come from France. There were Simmentals - they come from Switzerland and from Germany. There were Herefords from England. There were Aberdeen Angus’s from Scotland. It was a grand affair.

As we walked into the bull shed, I came in from the bottom entrance, and I walked up amongst all the bulls. They were in stalls on either side of the passage and the stockmen were brushing them furiously for the final, it was early in the morning. I went right to the top of the shed and there was the Grand Champion. He had been the Grand Champion for two or three years. This bull must have weighed over a ton and a half, I have never seen such a big animal.

I preached my heart out. The cameramen were taking the film and I could hear the boys were listening but they carried on brushing their bulls. At the end when I said Amen, the one old man next to me brushing his bull, said, “How can you say that Jesus is the only God?

I said, “Because He is.”
He said, “No, He’s not”
I said, “Who do you say He is?”

He said, “It is a mystery to me, boyo!” I said, “No sir, it is a fact.” And with that, I turned around and walked all the way down the shed, slowly, greeting the men and they were smiling and waving and brushing their bulls.

Who do you say He is today?
Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day.
