Heart After God

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Tuesday morning, 7th of March 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in 1 Chronicles 28:9:

“As for you, my son, Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.”

Then we go to Proverbs 3:5-6:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”

The last one is Matthew 7:7, we all know it:

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find, knock, and it will be opened to you.’

No favour here, no luck involved... No, just pure love for God and hard work - Yes, blood, sweat and many tears. Solomon was not a favoured man by God when he was born. He was an ordinary person, just like you and me, but he had a heart after God, a desire to know Jesus more intimately.

A young man by the name of Joseph Majola, was a young Zulu child. He lived across the road from where we are farming. He lived in a traditional hut and he came from a very poor family. He had no lights, and no running water but he loved Jesus Christ with a passion and he was determined to succeed, that means to achieve success. He walked 15km to school and 15km back. He studied with a candle. He washed his clothes every day. He had to go and fetch and carry water but the most important ingredient here is one of motive. Why was he so intent on succeeding? Well, the answer is found with Solomon.

You see, Solomon asked God for wisdom so that he could govern his people, the Jewish nation, correctly. Because of his selfless request, God gave him everything - wisdom, fame, wealth and power.

Oh by the way, the last I heard about Joseph Majola, he was the principal at a high school in Northern KwaZulu Natal, with over a thousand students.

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,
Goodbye.
