I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Friday morning, the 4th of August, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We start in the Book of Proverbs 30:8-9:

“Remove falsehood and lies far from me;
Give me neither poverty nor riches—
Feed me with the food allotted to me;
Lest I be full and deny You,
And say, “Who is the Lord?”
Or lest I be poor and steal,
And profane the name of my God.”

Then we go straight to Matthew 8:20:

“And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”

The richest person who has ever lived on earth or in heaven, He owns all the cattle on a thousand hills and all the silver and gold - He never even had a house to live in when He was on earth. Young man, be very careful what you ask for. With great success also comes great responsibility. Young lady, be careful what you are asking for. Marilyn Monroe, an American Actress who took the world by storm in the 1950 and 1960s, died in her bed at 36 years old from an overdose of drugs. Solomon, the richest man who has ever lived - he had more money than Bill Gates or any of the rest of them if you work it out from the money he had in those days, and yet he said in the Book of Ecclesiastes 5:10:

“He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver;
Nor he who loves abundance, with increase.
This also is vanity.”

We must be very careful what we ask for. I know some very wealthy and successful people, and they are generous beyond measure. I also know some poor people who are tight and only speak about making a quick dollar. I drove around our farm many years ago on a Sunday afternoon with a young preacher. He loved farming so much, and yet he said to me with a few tears in his eyes, “You know Angus, I would love to farm more than anything else, and God knew that, and He knew that if He had given me a farm, I would have forgotten Him.”

I want to say to you today, godliness with contentment is great gain.
1 Timothy 6:6.

Jesus bless you and have a lovely day,
Goodbye.
