Sound Wisdom

It is Monday morning, I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is the 30th of January,2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start off in the Book of Proverbs 8:14, the Lord says:

“Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom;
I am understanding, I have strength.”

And then we go to Ecclesiastes 7:19:

“Wisdom strengthens the wise,
More than ten rulers of the city.”

And then the last one is 1 Corinthians 3:19:

‘For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness…”

Now I looked up the Oxford Dictionary the word, wisdom: Wisdom is common-sense, that’s right, it is logic and it is experience. If you look at our Master, the Lord Jesus Christ, He never made a hurried decision, did he? Remember the woman caught in adultery and the Pharisees who tried to catch him? He just carried on writing in the sand, then He stood up and said: “He who is without sin, cast the first stone.” And they all left her, He said to the woman: “Your sins are forgiven, go and sin no more.”

When Jesus was brought before Pontius Pilate, he asked Him to speak up - Jesus said nothing. That’s wise. I know, my biggest problem in life is that I speak too quickly and I get myself into trouble. When an old man is slow to speak, its not because he is physically tired or maybe overwhelmed by modern society, no - its because he has walked the road of life. He has been to the school of hard knocks. He has made many mistakes in his life. He is slow to speak but quick to listen. Some of the greatest lessons I have learnt have not been in the classroom but rather in the field. There is a big difference between theory and the practical.

At agricultural college, we did our lectures in the morning and we did our practicals in the afternoon. I learnt more from the farm-workers and they weren’t well educated men... The cattle-men, shepherds, tractor drivers, mechanics and the horsemen, than I ever learned from a lecturer. We need to seek godly instruction, practical instruction about life from people who have already been there.

Today, seek your wisdom from the Lord, for He knows all things.
Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,
Goodbye.
